When Your Child is Struggling, You Need More Than Just Answers, You Need a Partner
Watching your child or teen struggle with depression, anxiety, ADHD, or behavioral challenges is one of the hardest experiences a parent can face. You've probably already tried therapy, talked to the pediatrician, researched endlessly online, and wondered if what you're seeing is "just a phase" or something more serious. You're not alone - and there is hope.
At Bluegrass Advanced Mental Health (BAMH), we provide thoughtful, developmentally-informed psychiatric care for children and adolescents from early childhood through the transition to adulthood.
Under the clinical leadership of Dr. David Roth - triple board-certified in Adult Psychiatry, Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, and Pediatrics - youths and their families receive personalized treatment plans that combine medication management, therapy coordination, family supports, and, when appropriate, other innovative and cutting-edge interventions.

Could your teen's depression be something else?
Dr. David Roth explains why a proper psychiatric evaluation matters, and what conditions can mimic or hide alongside teen depression.
In this video, Dr. David Roth, Chief Medical Officer of Bluegrass Advanced Mental Health, explains why misdiagnosing depression means missing what's actually causing it, and what a thorough evaluation of a teenager really involves.
TMS for Teens
Standard TMS is FDA-cleared for teens 15+ with:
- Moderate to severe depression
- Multiple medications without relief
- Prefer a non-medication option
- Safely tolerate 20-30 min treatment sessions
Mental Health Care That Works With Your Insurance
TMS and Spravato (esketamine nasal spray) are covered by most major health insurance plans when criteria are met. For patients who are out-of-network or who want accelerated TMS treatment, third-party financing may be available.
A 5-minute screening tells you if TMS or Spravato may be a fit, verifies your insurance coverage, and connects you with our Patient Care Team to schedule your first appointment.
Child & Adolescent - Psychiatry Frequently Asked Questions
At what age can a teenager get TMS?
A. BrainsWay Deep TMS is FDA-cleared for ages 15 and up for major depressive disorder. Teens are candidates when they have moderate to severe depression, have not responded adequately to medication, prefer a non-medication option and can comfortably sit still for a 20 to 30 minute session. Dr. Roth and Nurse Woods evaluate each teen individually, and a parent or guardian participates in the decision.
Can you help with school accommodations, a 504 plan or an IEP?
A. Yes. We provide diagnostic documentation, written recommendations for accommodations, and direct communication with school teams when you authorize it. Dr. Roth's pediatric training means recommendations are framed in language schools recognize and act on.
Do you attend appointments with the parents or just the teen?
A. Both, in a structured way. The initial evaluation usually includes time wit the parent and teen together, time with the teen alone, and time with the parent alone. Follow-up visits vary depending on age and what is being addressed. For younger children, parents are involved throughout.
How long is the first appointment with a child or teen?
A. Plan on 60 minutes. A thorough evaluation covers developmental history, medical history, school performance, family history, current symptoms, and prior treatment. Bring school reports, prior evaluations, and a medication list if you have them.
Do you offer tele-health for children and teens?
A. Yes for follow-up visits and medication management. Initial evaluations are in-person because assessing a child accurately depends on observation that does not translate well to video. TMS is in-person by requirement.
Is medication the only option for my child?
A. No. Many children and teens we see are treated without medication, through diagnostic clarification, therapy coordination, behavioral intervention, and school support. When medication is appropriate we explain why, what it does, what to watch for, and how we will monitor it. TMS is also a non-medication option for teens 15 and older with depression.
