Referring Providers - Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q. What kind of patients should I refer to Bluegrass Advanced Mental Health?

    A. Adults and adolescents 15 and older with major depressive disorder or OCD who have not responded adequately to two or more antidepressant trials; adults with treatment-resistant depression or MDD with acute suicidal ideation who may be candidates for Spravato; patients needing diagnostic clarification or second-opinion consultation for complex presentations; and children and adolescents needing specialized psychiatric evaluation. We accept referrals from physicians, therapists, psychologists, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.

  • Q. Will I get updates on patients I refer?

    A. Yes. We view referral as co-management, not a handoff, and we coordinate with your treatment plan throughout.

  • Q. How quickly can you see a patient I refer?

     A.  Patients are typically contacted within the same business day and evaluated within 3-5 business days post insurance verification and prior authorization.

  • Q. Do you take patients who are already established with another psychiatrist?

    A. Yes. Many referrals are for interventional treatment specifically, with the patient continuing medication management with their existing prescriber. That arrangement works well, and we coordinate directly with you on medication decisions during the TMS or Spravato course.

  • Q. What are the contraindications I should screen for before referring?

    A. For TMS: ferromagnetic implants or devices in or near the head, history of seizures or epilepsy, and unstable medical conditions. Dental fillings and implants are safe. For Spravato: aneurysmal vascular disease, arteriovenous malformation, history of intracerebral hemorrhage, bipolar diagnosis and hypersensitivity to ketamine or esketamine. Send the referral if you are uncertain; we complete full safety screening at evaluation.
